Les veilleurs de la mer

This film is born from a desire to connect two shores, two maritime territories, two peoples of the sea — crossed by the same gestures, struggles, silences, and resilience. The fishermen weave the visual and soundscape with their hands, their bodies, their voices. The sea watchers immerse us in the understanding of what the sea gives and takes away, what it teaches.

The story is woven as a mirror, in resonance. Images filmed in Sri Lanka converse with those from Senegal. A voice emerges — woven from the stories I have heard and my own words — a moving, shared voice. And then, the bodies in motion, in a common choreographic gesture, tested in unison at the edges of the world.

It is a film that takes its time, born of patience, written to the rhythm of the tides, of the men of the seas, the women of the shores, and of water itself.
